Negotiating Your Future: One-on-One with 66th U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice
The Fulling team just finished a new video together during recent staff meetings, Negotiating Your Future: One-on-One with 66th U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice Condoleezza Rice.
“Great leaders never accept the world as it was and always work for the world as it should be”, these words from Secretary Rice describe the foundation of her leadership and life. Join us as Secretary Rice is interviewed by Dick DeVos exploring what shaped her over the course of her successful decades in leadership. Take away insights into negotiation, leading well within diverse cultures, and accepting your leadership responsibility. “
Condoleeza talks a bit about her upbringing and says to own your past (it shapes you), but don’t be a prisoner of your past.
Condoleeza said that it’s of upmost importance for leaders to protect trust. That integrity is the bedrock of leadership. Leaders need to give vision and keep perspective.
Nobody leads alone. Leaders look for others around them with leadership qualities. They facilitate others to do their job well.
Humans tend to be transmitters. We need to be good listeners and hear other people to keep perspective in order to make good decisions. With our clients its important to not only know their business and industry, but to also know the person.
Team Takeaways:
We like that she said she was taught there are no victims. You must persevere and keep moving forward. We can learn from our past.
We also talked about in crisis we have to learn on the fly, set emotions aside and find the priority to stay focused.
We talked about meeting people where they are. We can do that with our clients and team by listening and trying to understand. We want to make they sure they know they’ve been heard.
God has given us minds to use and integrate with our faith. We talked about how the Bible says to renew your mind. We can let our faith guide us in where He has put us.
We need to have faith in ourselves and optimism in the face of fear. Fear will always be near. She said don’t be fearful of the future but shape it. We talked about how important it is to be disciplined over our sub conscious mind and tell ourselves that we can do something. We talked about not staying or being stuck in fear.
Conversation Questions and Food For Thought:
How do we deal with the past so we can be leaders of the future?
How do you focus on the most important thing, especially in a crisis?
How can you lead where you are based on trust and integrity?
How can we know enough about our clients and team to lead well?
