Focus - Destroy Your Distractions

The Fulling team has begun a new video lesson! Each week in our staff meetings, we watch a culture & leadership video to aid in our professional and personal development. We are currently watching the Focus series from Jon Acuff. Follow along each week as we learn from Acuff the practical ways to reorient our attention from the things that don’t matter to the things that do.

Jon reviewed some of what he covered in session three, summarizing it by reiterating the power of learning to focus. In doing so, he said, “You end up seeing things in your life you might have been missing for years.”

Eliminating distractions takes work. Beyond making observations and identifying how we tend to get off track, achieving focus requires that we actively rid ourselves of the behaviors that distract us.  In this session, Jon spotlights three words that can help us “destroy our distractions” and achieve focus: quit, limit, and flip.

Some escape pods you can’t or don’t need to quit. Instead, you should limit them. Jon used Twitter as an example from his own life. Instead of quitting Twitter, he limited his access to the platform.

Food for Thought

  • Do you have any escape pods or distractions you feel you should quit?

  • What about Jon’s examples around limiting distractions – have you found any limits that work for you?

    1. Do you have any Escape Pods you should place limitations on?
