Getting Happier in an Unhappy World
The Fulling team recently completed a video on Getting Happier in an Unhappy World" by Arthur Brooks.
Brooks explains that happiness is declining worldwide, but offers a clear strategy for improvement. He breaks happiness down into three elements: enjoyment, satisfaction, and meaning. Enjoyment comes from pleasure, people, and memories; satisfaction from overcoming challenges; and meaning from purpose and serving others. He emphasizes the importance of balancing what we have with what we want and focusing on controlling our desires.
Brooks also addresses how focusing on differences leads to hate and contempt. He urges us to declare war on contempt and reminds us that love is a choice, not just a feeling. Brooks shares three ways to foster more love:
Stand up to the man
Be a missionary
Don’t go alone.
