Habitudes - The Personal Laptop
The Fulling Management & Accounting team has started watching a new video series! Every week in our staff meetings, we watch a culture & leadership video to aid in our professional and personal development. The series we’re watching now is by Dr. Tim Elmore and is based on his book Habitudes - The Art of Self-Leadership. Follow along as we learn about self-leadership.
Did you know that “the average person consumes about 10,000 messages per day”, according to Dr. Tim Elmore? He shares that laptops, tablets or smartphones can either be your best friend or your worst enemy. They are great for storing information at your fingertips. But they can also be your enemy. You won’t find a file you didn’t save and the internet can house plenty of garbage like fake information and cyberbullying. Many people have become addicted to the things they can find on the internet.
“Our minds work like sophisticated computers,” says Elmore. They store information within us, whether its good or bad. “Leaders,” he explains, “are disciplined about what they store in their mind and heart. They don’t feed on garbage because they know…garbage in, garbage out.” We act on what fills our minds. Similar to a bank account, we can only withdraw what we have deposited.
Food for thought…
Consider what kind of information you have put into your mind.
What are some practices you use to store good things or encourage areas of growth in your mind?
Our team believes in the value of surrounding oneself with positive people and relationships, spending less time on social media and being present with people.
