Turning Imperfections into Opportunities
Built in 1860, our old house is far from perfect.
· The floors aren't level.
· Walls aren't straight.
· It squeaks and creaks.
· And it's noticeably smaller than the new houses around it.
But these imperfections give our house intangible value. Over the past 33 years, this old home has:
· Hosted hundreds of people for picnics, weddings, hayrides, and birthday celebrations
· Watched two little girls grow up
· Welcomed two little granddaughters
· Celebrated our 33rd wedding anniversary
...and so much more!
As business leaders, it's easy to focus on our own flaws:
· "I don't have that degree or certification."
· "I'm not a good public speaker."
· "I don't have influence."
· "Others have more followers than me."
But just like an old house, our imperfections can become opportunities over time—it's called character! It just takes time and effort to develop. Here's how I'm turning my own imperfections into opportunities:
· Reading and attending conferences to become a better leader
· Guesting on podcasts to improve my public speaking and content creation
· Writing and developing stories
· Investing time in others intentionally
So, what do you see when you look at yourself? Do you see flaws, or opportunities waiting to happen? What are you doing to turn your own imperfections into opportunities?
